Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering (WEAIiIB) is one of the largest faculties at Polish universities. In the comprehensive evaluation of the scientific activity and research and development of scientific units of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Faculty was awarded the SCIENTIFIC CATEGORY A. At the Faculty the strongest representation is given to exact sciences, which in some areas are connected with natural sciences. The strong connection of exact and basic sciences with practical applications allows for innovation in the area of technical and natural sciences and is very strongly emphasized in all fields of technical sciences practiced at the Faculty. The scientific potential of the Faculty is confirmed by full academic rights to confer doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in five disciplines: automation and robotics, electronics, electrical engineering, computer science, and biocybernetics and biomedical engineering. Employees of the Department of Automation and Robotics will be involved in the project from WEAIiIB.
The Faculty employs almost 300 people. The scientific and didactic staff consists of 52 independent scientists, 83 assistant professors, 57 assistants and 26 lecturers. Scientific and didactic activities are supported by over 90 PhD students.
The strongest representation at the Faculty is found in the sciences, which in some areas are linked to the natural sciences. The Faculty’s strategy in the area of science includes the development of priority research directions at the highest level in the areas of state-of-the-art information techniques and technologies, bioengineering, robotics, ecological generation, transmission, processing and use of electricity, modern electrical equipment and metrology. The strategy also includes the development of contacts and links with industry and the acquisition of funds for scientific research from both domestic and foreign sources.
At the Faculty didactics is realised in the field of: automation and robotics, electrical engineering, computer science, biomedical engineering, as well as microelectronics in technology and medicine in undergraduate and postgraduate studies, where 3046 students study. We also meet the needs of English-speaking students by offering education in English as part of the second-cycle specialisations and Computer Science as part of the first-cycle studies (from October 2019).
In recognition of the high level of education quality, the Polish Accreditation Commission has issued a POSITIVE evaluation valid until the academic year 2022/2023.
By the decision of the Presidium of KAUT, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering has been granted European accreditation for 5 years for the fields of study it conducts (https://www.eaiib.agh.edu.pl/akredytacja-kaut/). The quality certificate confirms the high level of education, but also compliance with the standards and rules adopted in Europe. This accreditation system is closely linked to the Bologna process and is based on Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance, which are in this respect a bible for quality and accreditation.
